CHINESE YIXING CLAY TEAPOT WITH MODERN TWIST

Chinese tea reinvented for the modern tea drinker. With the Yixing clay teapot with a modern twist, you are getting centuries worth of Chinese tea culture combined with modern design and convenience. A modern way to enjoy your favourite tea.
Authentic Yixing clay complements the mineral composition of more than a dozen minerals combined, elevating the flavor over time. Modern twist: in a sense that the sensibility of the design has been slightly lifted for a more ergonomic appeal, there’s also a subtle hint of gimmickry for convenience, yet, not too far fetched to deviate away from all the subtleties of a proper infuser.

What industries does it affects?

Today it is mostly a consumer good with hedonic demands. However, having a desirable Yixing teapot can benefit many business segments:

  • Hospitality industry: Higher end hotels, tearooms or restaurant can enrich their guests’ experience by providing an improved and more authentic tea service. Also, the teapot makes a pleasant decoration.
  • Giftware & Retail: With their blend of cultural heritage and modern design, Yeme teasets make an ideal gift for tea enthusiasts, collectors, or anyone who appreciates fine craftsmanship. Key retail outlets are speciality stores which focus on home goods, cultural products or gourmet products.
  • Corporate gifting: Offering a one-of-a-kind, culturally meaningful item like this teapot can serve as a memorable corporate gift, showcasing a touch of thoughtfulness and appreciation for quality.

What problems will you solve?

The Yixing teapot solves some common tea-drinking problems, or satisfy some tea-drinking desires:

  • Enhancing the flavor of tea: Authentic Yixing clay is porous, the teapot absorbs the flavor of the tea brewed in it, and “season” it. The seasoning raises the flavor profile of the brewed tea, since the previously absorbed flavor gives a more complex character to the same type of tea brewed in it in the future.

  • Authentic brew of tea: Authentic Yixing teapots are on the must-have-item for practitioners of Gong Fu Cha. It also is the right size and heat retention property for those who practice Gong Fu Cha, since Gong Fu Cha consist of brief repeated infusions of the same leaves, a leaf style unique to a Yixing teapot.

  • Durability, and lasting nature of the teapot: A Yixing teapot that has seen immense use, and is properly cared for can outlast several generations, and create an heirloom. This is in contrast to other, more fragile teaware, made out of glass or porcelain.
  • Aesthetic delight: As well as being functional, they are a treat to look at, a delight that keeps giving and a connection to a rich cultural heritage whose traces are still live with us. (The modern twist gives it a more contemporary aesthetic).
  • Single-Tea Specialization: Often, tea enthusiasts may use a single Yixing pot to brew only one type of tea to help facilitate a unique seasoning for that tea. This helps facilitate proper seasoning of whatever tea you deem your favorite.

Frequently asked

Here are some of the frequently asked questions on Yixing clay teapots and our modern twist version:

Yixing clay, or Zi Sha, is a unique type of clay found only in the Yixing region of China’s Jiangsu province. Its special mineral composition and porous nature allow it to absorb the flavors and aromas of the tea brewed in it over time. This seasoning process enhances the taste of future brews of the same tea, creating a richer and more complex flavor profile.

Bringing a modern twist on the classics, we are working to balance the benefits of our health-promoting Yixing clay with modern design concepts. Our designs can include ergonomic handles and spouts for ease of use, modern aesthetic forms that complement contemporary living spaces, and innovative firing techniques that support increased durability while preserving the traditional properties of the clay. We want to make the authentic Yixing experience more accessible to the modern tea enthusiast.
Before the first use of your new Yixing teapot, it is advisable to “season” it. This usually involves gently rinsing the teapot with warm water, then steeping the type of tea you wish to enjoy from the pot several times and discarding the brewed tea. Other methods involve simmering the teapot in water with tea leaves. This “prepares” or “opens the pores” of the clay and also begins the seasoning process. Soap should not be used, as it will leech into the pot and taint the flavour of the tea that is brewed in the pot.
Technically you can brew any tea, but Yixing teapots are traditionally best for Pu-erh, Oolong, and Black teas. The clay has properties that best enhance the characteristics of those teas. It is also highly recommended to dedicate a single teapot to a single type of tea (and some even recommend dedicating to only 1 tea) in order to build up the best seasoning in the teapot and avoid the mixing of flavors.
After each use, rinse the teapot with hot water and let it air dry completely. Do not use soap or detergents, the porous clay will absorb them and it will affect your tea.
[Provide specific warranty information here. Example: Yes, our teapots come with a limited one-year warranty that covers manufacturing defects. Please see the warranty card included with your purchase for details.]
It usually depends on how many people you are making tea for and your brewing style (e.g. brewing tea in the Gong Fu Cha style usually means using smaller tea pots). In terms of styles there are many, from classic style to our modern interpretation. You need to consider what aesthetic you like and whether it will suit your tea making space. For people who are starting off on their Yixing tea pot journey we will recommend a medium size tea pot (150-250ml).
Authentic Yixing pots are made from real Yixing “Zi Sha” clay from the Yixing area, and are all hand made using traditional techniques (more below). Some ways to identify yixing teapots include; the texture of the clay (most should be a little sandy in texture), the presence of very small mineral “spots” or “flecks” (these would be mica or iron spots), how it is constructed (Yixing teapots are almost never wheel-thrown, they are usually hand-built). Original yixing teapots contain many naturally occurring mineral elements.
