What are the common wants that one may need and be pleased?
Although it is not a “problem-solving” product in the conventional sense, the Yixing Zisha teapot with artistic glaze addresses several desires and aspirations:
Enhanced Tea Flavor and Aroma: The primary benefit for tea lovers is the Zisha clay ability to absorb tea oils over time, seasoning the pot and enhancing the flavor, aroma, and texture of subsequently brewed teas. Each pot develops a unique character based on the teas brewed in it.
Aesthetic Value and Artistic Expression: The artistic glaze used in this teapot makes the work a unique piece. The visual pleasure experienced from viewing the teapot can generate an appreciation of the artist’s creativity. As a result, the observer feels more connected with the artist. The connection into tradition and culture: The utilization, or even owning of such a teapot is a very palpable, practical link both to an entire history of the teas and an enormously important part of Chinese culture.

FAQ (frequent ask questions)
Below are some frequently asked questions by users which relates to Chinese Yixing zisha teapots with artistic glaze:
Yixing Zisha clay, or “purple sand” clay, is a special clay from Yixing that is found only in the Yixing region of the Jiangsu province, China. Teapots made from Yixing clay are desirable among tea connoisseurs because their porous structure allows the teapot to “breathe” and absorb the flavour of the teas that are brewed. Over time, deposits of the tea’s aromatic oils within the pot season the teapot, leading to a gradual enhancement of the colour, aroma, and taste of the tea. The clay’s good porosity and heat-retention properties are also advantageous to the brewing of tea.
Answer: Traditionally, the Yixing teapots are not glazed on the inside, to preserve a direct relationship between clay and tea. In our pots, often an artistic glaze is applied to the outside of the pot, whilst preserving the traditional unglazed inside of pot to preserve maximum tea seasoning. Applying a glaze to the outside of a Yixing teapot, adds an artistic element to the pot, making it unique in terms of color, pattern, shape and texture. The exterior glaze does not interfere with the beneficial tea brewing properties of Zisha clay, as the interior of the pot is not glazed and maintains its traditional, porous, state. This is not always the case, so please check individual product specifications for more detailed information. However, this is the normal and preferred process for artistic glaze Yixing teapots.
Answer:
• Initial seasoning: rinse teapot with warm water. One approach is to “awaken” the pot by making a strong batch of the type of tea you intend to primarily use this pot with, let steep for many hours (or overnight if desired), and discard tea.
• Every Day: Clean the teapot regularly. Make sure to always empty out any leaves and rinse out the pot with hot water after use. Never use soap or detergent to clean as the porous clay will absorb the taste of the soap.
• Drying: Allow your teapot to air dry thoroughly with lid off to prevent mildew.
• Dedicated Tea Type: It is strongly encouraged that you dedicate a teapot to one type of tea (e.g Puerh, Oolong) because the Yixing pot will absorb the characteristics of that specific tea and mixing tea types will confuse the seasoning.
• Development of Patina on the Teapot: With usage and time, your teapot would develop a layer of impressive patina, reminescent of the teapot’s good old times with tea.
Answer: Yixing teapots are especially popular for brewing Puerh, Oolong and Black teas. The deep flavors and aromas in these teas benefit significantly from brewing in Yixing teapots. The porous nature of Zisha clay mellow the tannins in these types of tea and round out the flavour, making it smoother and richer. You can brew other types of tea such as Green and White tea, but they are often more delicate and better suited for being brewed in porcelain or glass teaware rather than Yixing teapots, as they have no influence over the flavour profile of such teas.
Answer: Authenticity is a key concern. Genuine Yixing Zisha clay has a distinct texture and appearance. Look for:
• Clay Quality: Authentic Zisha clay has a slightly sandy texture and a natural, earthy color (even before firing, colors can range from purple, red, and yellow-brown). It shouldn’t be perfectly smooth like porcelain.
• Craftmanship: Check the fit of the lid, the position of spout, overall balance of the pot. Handmade pots will have imperfection details, considered signs of authenticity rather than defects.
• Artist’s Marking: Most Yixing teapots will be marked with the artist or factory name, generally on the bottom of teaware or inside of the teapot lid.
• Sound: If dry and empty, tap the lid gently against the body and listen: the harder-fired pots will tinkle more brightly; the lower fired pottery will have a duller sound.
• Price: Watch out for “cheap” Yixing teapots. Zisha clay is a non-renewable resource and making teapots is an art piece, so it’s not a cheap
• Source: buy from reputable dealers who specialize in teaware. Our teapots are obtained “orginal”+ expert inspection.
Yes, we only use food-safe & lead-free glazes on our Yixing Zisha teapots. One of the main purposes of the glaze is ornamental, and therefore it is only applied to the outside of the Yixing teapot while the inside chamber that comes in contact with the tea liquid is left mostly unglazed as to preserve the traditional Zisha clay teapot’s functional benefit. We always ensure our teaware is safe for our customers.
• Size: Yixing teapots are quite tiny compared to those familiar to Western tea drinkers. This reflects the historic use of Yixing teapots in the Gongfu style of brewing, which favors multiple short infusions and a high ratio of leaf to water. It is best to choose a size that seems appropriate for the number of people that you usually serve tea to, or to your personal tea drinking habits.
• Shape: Different shapes contribute differently to the brewing process. Some taller shapes may lend themselves to teas that benefit from (slightly) agitating in the pot while steeping, while others (flatter, wider shapes) may assist teas which require the leaf to fully open in order to extract the complete flavor of a tea, while other shapes can also help in retention of heat and ease of pouring. The choice of shape is often also dictated by personal aesthetic preferences and the tea to be brewed in them. For instance, rounder pots are optimal for rolled Oolongs, as to allow the leaves room and authority to open from the water weight.

Real Life Examples (simulated)
The Collector’s Centerpiece: “I’ve been collecting Yixing teapots for many years and I knew I had to have this one the instant I saw it (such a beautiful ‘Starry Night’ glaze). The Zisha clay is clearly very high quality – my aged Puerh has never tasted better (the inside is seasoning nicely) and the beautiful exterior is a conversation starter. It’s the centerpiece for my collection and my daily tea practice.” Liu Wei, Shanghai, China
A Bridge to Tradition: “My grandparents always used Yixing pots but I never quite understood why until I started learning Gongfu Cha for myself. I chose this one because the landscape glaze reminded me of a Chinese painting. Now it’s the base of my daily tea meditation; I feel more connected with my roots and what feel is a normal part of my life. The Tie Guan Yin Oolong has a noticeably smoother texture and each brew reveals a new layer of complexity of flavour. It’s my daily reminder to slow down and smell the tea!” Mei Chen, San Francisco, USA
The Perfect Present, Deeply Loved: “I was looking for a memorable gift for my best friend who loves tea and I knew she liked handmade things with a backstory. This ‘phoenix glaze’ Yixing teapot was ideal. She was over the moon! She said it was is the most beautiful teapot she’d ever seen – and now her favourite Da Hong Pao Oolong has a richer aroma and a lingering sweetness she doesn’t get from the same batch of tea in any other pot. It was her ideal present.” David K., London, UK
Upgrading the Everyday Cup: “I’m not sophisticated with tea ceremonies or anything like that, I just enjoy a good cuppa black tea in the afternoon. I decided to treat myself to a Yixing pot after reading how it can make my tea taste better. It’s hard to explain, but the difference is there; my daily Keemun is rounder and more satisfying. And frankly, the pot itself, with its sweet celadon crackle glaze, makes me feel that little more special too. It’s one of my little joys in life.” Sarah B., Sydney, Australia.

Small but mighty: It’s perfect for those single-person sessions. The pattern in the glaze is very detailed and has lasted a few washes now. $60 is a lot for a 4 inch pipe but
